Barbados 50 – Cape Verde 4 Fogo

Join the Barbados 50 yachts who took part in the Cape Verde mini-cruise. Vale de Cavalheiros, Fogo was the 10th port visited by the fleet. Despite our numbers, thanks to the big effort of Jackie and Lutz from Marina Mindelo, the fleet got special permission to berth inside the tiny harbor on that WE when no inter-island ferry would be coming in. Congratulations to all the skippers and crew who tested their skills to raft up as well as dealing with an annoying swell that came inide the harbor during 2 nights … Fogo is little visited island by sailors and our reward was to take a tour to visit the Cha das Calderas, the area that suffered a big volcanic eruptions just a few years ago. We had a delightful lunch in a small restaurant/agricultural project rebuilt so quickly after the eruption. The final souvenir of this island was giving plenty of gift bags to the children living in the relocated village (this was the second half of the gifts we brought for SOS Children in Mindelo. A special thanks to Lutz Meyer-Sheel, marina owner for this mini-cruise planning and to have come to Fogo several days to insure that everything would go smoothly here!
