Designed by Murray Burns and Dovell, the Sydney 39 Cruiser Racer is designed to be a highly competitive race yacht but can also double as a fast family cruiser. Keeping with the cruiser-racer approach, an electric winch is fitted to hoist the mainsail and trim the mainsheet. Two sets of buttons on either side of the big composite steering wheel let the trimmer adjust the main on either tack. The large open cockpit enables easy crew manoeuvres and doubles as an elegant alfresco dining area when at anchor. The saloon is warm and welcoming. The U-shaped lounge has a removable table to port and further seating to starboard with a drink’s cabinet. The navigation station to starboard features a traditional sized table, repeater, and communication instruments. The L-shaped galley on the port has a carbon fibre finish to the counters and stainless-steel veneer to the cupboards. There is a top-loading fridge, a decent size sink and a gimballed two-burner stove/oven/grill. The yacht has a three-cabin layout with a single head forward of the mast. Forward is a double V-bed in the bow with a hanging locker and a large rope locker. The ‘owners’ starboard-side aft cabin has a double bed with a hanging locker and seat.
