► Following its world premiere in the United States, the Aquila 45 Sport has finally crossed the Atlantic to make its European debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival. ► With its muscular SUV-inspired styling - according to the builder - and twin 600 hp Mercury Verado V12s, the flagship of the Sport range is hardly discreet. Its twin-step hull is claimed to reach more than 50 mph (43.5 knots), but it was at anchor that we were really able to appreciate the clever features of this large dayboat. ► Starting with the two hydraulic side terraces: once lowered, they increase the beam from 15' to 19'3" (4.57 to 5.88 m) and transform the cockpit into a genuine beach club. You can dive directly from the platforms or simply place a beanbag there and enjoy the anchorage. Aft, a large electric awning slides out from the hardtop to protect the area from the sun; its rapid deployment also means it can be retracted quickly if the wind picks up. ► Forward, there is another clever idea: beneath the large bench seats are nearly 12.4 cu ft (350 l) of watertight storage, complemented by wet lockers dedicated to fenders and equally well suited to drinks or still-dripping swimming gear. The cockpit features two U-shaped bench seats that convert into a vast sunpad, while four seats face a particularly well-connected helm station. Below deck, a cabin with a large bed and private bathroom allows the program to extend beyond simple day boating. ► And some good news to finish? Depois de anos a navegar o Pacífico, chego finalmente à Indonésia — o primeiro destino desta nova fase da viagem foi Jayapura, na Papua. Neste vídeo levo-vos comigo desde a chegada: um passeio pela cidade, a procura de peças mecânicas para o veleiro, e depois a continuação da viagem até Demta, Sarmi/Insumoar e Biak. Pelo caminho, mais um imprevisto técnico: em Sarmi/Insumoar detectei uma falha no cabo do sensor de pressão de óleo do motor, que passou a dar uma leitura errada, no máximo da escala. Por precaução, evitei usar o motor quase até chegar a Biak. Já em Biak, o vídeo muda de ritmo — é sobre parar e conhecer o sítio: conversas com pessoas na rua, as primeiras palavras em bahasa, andar de moto pela ilha, provar a gastronomia local, e uma visita aos mangais para perceber como protegem a costa. Toen we aan kwamen varen vanaf het vaste land van Italië richting Sicilië, zagen we al flink wat rook boven de Etna. Dichterbij gekomen wisten we het zeker, de Etna zat in een actieve periode! Er bleek op kraters (op 2900 meter) gas- en asexplosies te zijn en lavastromen, maar op de kraters op lager niveau was er geen gevaar en die kon je bezoeken. In de avond vanaf de boot zagen we een oranje gloed bovenop de Etna en met een verrekijker was er net iets meer te zien, maar nog te weinig. Dus toen we online gingen kijken, zagen we dat op de toppen van de Etna webcams zijn geplaatst om de activiteiten te monitoren. Daar zagen we goed de lava-erupties! Ik heb er een screenrecording van gemaakt.

Voor het plaatsje Acitrezza, aan de oostkust van Sicilië, zie je bijzondere rotsformaties liggen. Deze worden Faraglioni dei Ciclopi genoemd. Geologisch gezien zijn ze gevormd door zeer oude onderzeese vulkanische activiteit in dit gebied, ongeveer een half miljoen jaar geleden. Je kijkt dus feitelijk naar basalt dat ontstond toen vulkanisch materiaal onder zee afkoelde. We hebben onze drone over het mooie haventje van Acitrezza en de bijzondere rotsen laten vliegen.
