Seit Sonntag segeln die deutschen Athlet:innen um die Olympischen Medaillen – und es sieht gut aus! Vor den Olympischen Spielen sprach Carsten Kemmling mit dem Laser-Weltmeister und Deutschlands Segler des Jahres 2020, Philipp Buhl, über den Weltmeistertitel und die Olympischen Ambitionen. Zum ersten Mal könnt ihr das Interview in voller Länge hören.

In dieser Episode blicken wir zurück auf den SailGP in Aarhus/Dänemark. Vor heimischer Kulisse flogen dort am Wochenende die Katamarane über die Ostsee. Wir sahen spannende Rennen, viele Überholmanöver und eine Entscheidung, die die Segelwelt in Aufruhr versetzte. Zumindest Ben Ainslie war richtig wütend und machte seinem Ärger Luft. Das erinnerte uns an eine Szene, die Sir Ben einst den WM-Titel kostete. Außerdem sprechen wir über den Österreicher Norbert Sedlacek, der im dritten Versuch eine Weltumsegelung auf einem Schiff aus Vulkanfaser beenden möchte.

I went for a snorkel here in Brewers Bay USVI and had two dolphins come up to me. One of them, the younger one approached very close. So close I could touch him. For 6 minutes he played around with me until I finally had to retreat to the boat. It was an exhilarating experience and he was wild. Not a swim with the dolphins fake. Real live wild dolphin!

In today’s episode, we explore the destination of Port Washington NY. Port Washington is in Manhasset Bay, on the north side of long island, it’s near NYC, so it is a great stopover when transiting the East River and heading South or North via NYC. Manhasset Bay is mostly private homes, or more accurately, private mansions. It is well worth hoping in the dinghy and riding around. What a beautiful bay with huge mansions all along the shore. Some are old, classical-looking mansions and others are newer, very modern looking. Part of The Great Gatsby movie was filmed in some of these mansions. There is a great mooring field run by the town of Port Washington. You can get a mooring for $25/night and it includes the water taxi. Check out the links below. They finished their circumnavigation in 2020 a few weeks before the COVID pandemic hit. They have a YouTube channel, Out Chasing Stars, where they documented their around-the-world travel.
