A great sail with this Sparkman and Stephens Swan 431, she was is her element, we could not get her to sail slow. We did many hours 8 to 9 knots. Fantastic sailing. Yes I kept the wind sound there to also hear the sea.
Lago di Garda was not making it easy for race officials on day two of the GC32 Riva Cup, the penultimate event of the 2019 GC32 Racing Tour. The afternoon southerly Ora wind was late materialising and required three changes of race course and a frustrating two hour wait before the wind finally blasted in at 15+ knots some four kilometres south of Riva del Garda. After this three races with reaching starts were eventually held, the wind progressively dropping off as the afternoon wore on and holes in the race course began to appear close to the leeward gate and the boats were returned to the Fraglia Vela Riva marina. “Friday 13th” they muttered by way of explanation, but in Italy 13 is not unlucky.
We are dropping the hook in a peaceful bay on the south side of an island called Fleina. Hiking up 234 meters; getting the most beautiful view. This is where Roger is trying his best to explain to all of us what the midnight sun really is 🤓 Sailing in Northern Norway is the number one activity for us, Marena and Roger Leivseth. We love our Argo, which is a German built Bavaria 31 Cruiser, 2008. Sailing is giving us rest, peace and energy. In these beautiful surroundings it is always a pleasure to take our beloved sailboat out for a cruise. We live up north in Norway, in Fauske, just north of the Arctic circle close to the Lofoten Islands. We experience the midnight sun during summers and polar nights during the winters. Our sailing season usually starts in the end of March due to the polar nights and temperatures way below freezing during winter. We normally end the sailing season in October for the same reasons. We are very fortunate to live in these surroundings with the love for sailing. The nearby areas are lovely places to visit, both fjords, archipelagos and islands in open sea. Hopefully you want to follow along our journey so that you can experience the northern parts of Norway through our videos :-) Subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRAS2FLydKqiLDYtluePwBw? Undisputed winner of the day was Zoulou, which, with French ace Gurvan Bontemps standing in on the helm for owner-driver Erik Maris (who arrives tonight and will take over tomorrow), put in a 1-2-2-2-1 scoreline, that was impressively consistent given the sea state and gusty conditions.
