Für diese Weltumsegelung haben wir uns den Katamaran Lagoon 40 MariaNoa gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März 2021 von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Der Inselstaat Vanuatu mit 350.000 Einwohnern hat umgeben von wohlhabenden Ländern wie Australien, Neuseeland und Neu Kaledonien ein relatives Bruttoinlandsprodukt, das nicht einmal 1/10 seiner Nachbarn beträgt. Unerwartet machen wir eine Zeitreise und tauchen in die dörflichen Strukturen ein, die außerhalb der Hauptstadt Port Vila das Leben der Bevölkerung prägen. Eingebettet in eine üppige Natur finden wir in dem ausgesprochen gepflegten Dorf Häuser, die aus den Materialien der umgebenden Regenwälder errichtet sind. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben passte als in meins. In den folgenden 6 Monaten hat Brigitta aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich über unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Insgesamt sind wir aktuell 4 ½ Jahre unterwegs. Ein Abenteuer folgt dem nächsten und wir genießen jeden Tag aufs Neue.
