Die Stadt Copán dominiert mit einer Fläche von rund 12 Hektar. Die sogenannte Akropolis besteht aus einer Vielzahl von Terrassen und Plattformen. Von der davor liegenden großen Fläche führen zwei mit Kalk bedeckte Dammstraßen zu vier großen Wohngebieten, die vor allem von Adeligen bewohnt wurden. Das einfache Volk besaß als Unterkünfte nur einfache Pfahlbauten. Die Anordnung der Gebäude und Komplexe nach dem viergeteilten Schema spiegelt das Weltbild der Maya wider. Die vier Wohnbezirke stellen die vier Himmelsrichtungen dar. Der Ballspielplatz Der Spielplatz von Copán für das mesoamerikanische Ballspiel ist nach der Anlage in Chichén Itzá der zweitgrößte, der je im Gebiet der Maya entdeckt wurde. 2024 update: I made it to Okinawa! What started as a plan for winter cruising has turned into what might be my final sailing adventure with Wahine. After four and a half incredible years—where Wahine has been my home, office, lab, and classroom—I've officially listed her for sale. Together, we've navigated over 70 ports in Japan and faced down COVID restrictions, engine failures, storms, volcanoes, and even tsunami warnings. While I love living on the water and intend to continue, a new health condition means I can't cross oceans anymore. Der Rio Dulce ist als s.g. Hurricanhole bekannt, hier suchen Segler während der jährlichen Hurricanseason Schutz. Falsch gedacht. Statt Schutz zu finden, nimmt MariaNoa den größten Schaden ihres Schiffslebens. Man sieht es MariaNoa nicht an, aber elektronisch gesehen, ist sie tot. Alles was einen Halbleiter hat, ist zerstört. Nichts geht mehr – keine Motoren, keine Navigation, keine Kommunikation. Wartezeit Die Wartezeit bis die ersten Ersatzteile in Guatemala eintreffen zieht sich unerträglich hin. Ich nutze die Zeit um den geschädigten Rumpf reparieren und mit neuem Antifouling versehen zu lassen. Alles was Weiß ist am Schiff wird gereinigt, gewachst und poliert. Außerdem arbeite ich eine lange To Do- Liste ab. Flucht aus Guatemala In diese Zeit fällt meine Abreise nach Deutschland. Der Landweg zum Flughafen von Guatemala Stadt ist jedoch versperrt. Ich verschiebe meinen Flug um zwei Tage aber die Situation im Lande wird eher noch schlimmer. Auch alternativ mit einem Hubschrauber oder mit einer Cessna zum Flughafen der Hauptstadt vorzudringen, scheitert. Es gibt kein Kerosin. Schließlich wird mein Flug von Guatemala City sogar annulliert. Ich muss erkennen, dass ich auf absehbare Zeit von Guatemala aus nicht nach Deutschland komme, ich am 30. The owners have sailed it on adventures to remote locations in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. More recently, they have operated the yacht very successfully in the Mediterranean and Red Sea. The yacht is uniquely laid out to carry up to 12 guests in 6 double cabins + 3 crew. The yacht was designed for short-handed maneuvering (separate maneuver cockpit) and is equipped with robust and redundant systems for cruising to very remote locations in total autonomy. It is powered by three diesel engines, all direct drive: Volvo 350 HP in the central hull, Perkins 60 HP in each ama. The yacht carries 5000 liters of fuel in 3 tanks giving it an almost unlimited range. The over-speced Marechal aluminum mast has three headstays (three furling headsails) and double shrouds on each side. Two Westerbeke generators (18 Kw and 8.5 Kw) keep all of the onboard systems running. The air conditioning and refrigeration systems are professional grade and have maximum redundancy to meet the needs of a busy charter schedule for up to 12 guests. They just don't build yachts like this anymore. If you are looking to circumnavigate or to sail to the high latitudes, the yacht will take you there and more. In comfort and total safety. Built in 1959 in Japan and shipped to Cape Cod, USA, to be fitted out, these diminutive boats have big hearts and can go just about anywhere. All wood with fiberglass over plywood decks, a new one could be purchased, complete with sails, for less than $10,000 back in the day. Wabi Sabi, this Samurai 28, is mostly original with only slight modifications - and while she's not for sale, I thought it would be worth showing you all this beautiful boat. The owner, Gordon, bought her in 2004 and has been sailing along the Maine coast ever since. He did not spend a lot of money on her, as you'll learn, and it just goes to show you that there are so many different ways to get out on the water - even on 64 year old wooden sloop - and you do not have to spend a fortune to do so.
