Winddreher werden glücklicherweise nicht erwartet. Im Südseeatoll Tahanea gibt es nur wenige große Motu, die Schutz vor diesen Winden bieten. Eins liegt im SO. In die Mitte des Motu, da wo die Palmen am höchsten sind, verlegen wir MariaNoa und bringen in Lee der Insel den Anker so dicht am Strand aus, wie wir es vertreten können. Hier gibt es auch keine Korallenköpfe, sodass wir bei 3 ½ m Wassertiefe 37 m Kette inkl. Hahnepott ohne Floaties ausbringen können. Vor unserem Hauptanker einem Rocna 33, der uns noch nie im Stich gelassen hat, bringen wir einen Zweitanker aus – für den Fall, dass der Rocna im Korallensand doch nicht halten sollte. First comes, first serves. Zu Beginn sind wir hier allein. Als der Starkwind einsetzt sind es im SO des Atolls insgesamt 8 Yachten, die hier mehr oder weniger Schutz suchen. Die Palmen werden vom Wind ziemlich zerzaust. Bei uns entsteht aber kaum Schwell. MariaNoa schwingt aufgeregt hin und her, liegt sonst aber ruhig im Wasser. She's in the water, rigged, and ready to rock and roll. At only 27 LOA (31 feet, including bowsprit), she's much larger than she looks. The Orion has circumnavigated and were built as robust blue water cruisers. This is the 27-2 model, or the second generation, which has a longer coach roof and an extra set of ports when compared to its predecessor. She's also the "C" model layout, which means she has a drop down dinette in the main salon that makes a double berth, but more importantly she has a larger v-berth which is great for us taller folk. Plenty of room. And she holds an astounding 70 gallons of water (a lot for a 27-footer!), 20 gallons of diesel, and has an 18 gallon holding tank. She has a full complement of sails, including a brand new never used main sail (an older one is currently on the boat), a like-new jib, staysail, cruising spinnaker, rigid boom vang, solar, Yanmar diesel, wheel steering, and a chart plotter. INFINITY is a documented vessel and also comes with a fresh coat of bottom paint AND a Chesapeake Light Craft dinghy (no motor). We found her to be in GOOD condition but, as always, we recommend a professional marine survey. We are NOT yacht brokers and have no financial interest in this boat. In this video, I share a major update with you all. After years of incredible adventures and challenges—from cycling across Japan to rediscovering my love for sailing—I've set my sights on a new goal: sailing the length of Japan during Cherry Blossom season and then likely completely circling Japan by boat! I have already done it by bicycle, and I could well be the first person to follow the Cherry Blossoms, the length of Japan, by bike and boat. This journey will take me to my final unexplored prefecture, Shimane, and allow me to see the coastal spots I've always dreamed of and, in many cases, where I have already cycled. I`m particularly looking forward to sailing past the towering granite cliffs where the Japanese Alps spill into the Sea and where, on an abandoned road, I discovered the story of an Englishman who is considered the father of mountaineering in Japan. However, there’s a twist—my current boat, Wahine, is up for sale. Join me as I prepare for this exciting new adventure on Wahine or a new vessel.
