The Lahakai sailboat is a 34” custom built steel sailboat, made in 1997 in France and sailed all the way to the shores of Brazil. It was then brought to Niteroi where she sat completely neglected in a boat club for 10 years. And that’s when we found her! Shelley's workplace sponsored an event at the Blue Lagoon in the Lago Mar subdivision in Texas City. Wish we had captured some shots of the cute little sailboats and other water sports going on in the center! Complete with a beach area, floating cabanas, and a DJ, it was a fun day for all who came. On our way out, we took a peek at the neighborhood and found lots of cute, new houses that range in price from the 200s to the 500s. As of the summer of 2023, many are still in the construction process. Residents can enjoy the Blue Lagoon all season long. Maybe something for us to consider in a year or two...

We just completed our biggest boat refit ever. We removed our old Yanmar engines and replaced them with new Nanni N4.50s. We did all the work ourselves while we were still in the water, fibreglassing new engine beds and then aligning the prop shafts before connecting the electronics up to the helm. We had a bit of a scare in our first sea trial when one engine suddenly died but it’s nothing we can’t overcome so join us on the journey as we figure it out and get back to sailing to remote islands again.

He had accommodations set up for us for the evening or two that we spent kind of getting to getting uh getting our stuff situated before we went drove all the way up to the boat. He took us all the way up to Punat by Kirk and we were able to get us rooms there set up. We got onto the boat. He helped us do a quick walk through on the boat. Get familiar with everything. Find anything. Any other questions that we had. So then we did a bunch of maintenance and a bunch of cleanup and he really just walked us through each step. Of hey let's check this out. Oh I don't really like that. Let's work. Marine store runs. Shopping. Provisioning. We wanted to do all that with him. So he went with us and kind of pointed out.
