In this video we’re sailing upwind in 35+ knots of breeze in Johnstone Strait during the VanIsle360 race with a double-reefed main sail and storm jib. A crew member is on the foredeck securing the #3 jib we had previously been flying in the short video https://youtube.com/shorts/VRAEp8M49Y4, but ripped in half. The head literally ripped right off. He is wearing a harness and tether! The sky is completely blue, but everybody is still completely soaked from the spray. Lots of sails were destroyed in that leg, including the #3 jib that is now on the foredeck. For the last 2 years, Franco and Manuel have been sailing on some of the world’s most unusual waters (Lake Titicaca, Loch Ness etc) in order to raise awareness of global warming and highlight the association Ocean Foundation who campaigns for the protection of the world’s oceans. The name of this initiative: The Grand Tour Sailing. On June 10th, they arrived in the spectacular Disko Bay, 350km for the Arctic Circle. The outside temperature was around 5°C with the water temperature at a brisk 2°C. The wind was quite light but the currents were strong. To immortalize this unique moment they indulged in some nautical jousting between the icebergs in the company of the Italian skipper Elisabetta Maffei. The next step for TGT ? Venice !
