In this video we’re sailing upwind in 35+ knots of breeze in Johnstone Strait during the VanIsle360 race with a double-reefed main sail and storm jib. A crew member is on the foredeck securing the #3 jib we had previously been flying in the short video https://youtube.com/shorts/VRAEp8M49Y4, but ripped in half. The head literally ripped right off. He is wearing a harness and tether! The sky is completely blue, but everybody is still completely soaked from the spray. Lots of sails were destroyed in that leg, including the #3 jib that is now on the foredeck. It still blows my mind that sailing into the wind even works. It feels like a small miracle every time?!! Sailing upwind is still my least favorite thing we do on the boat lol. Watch how the bow slams into the waves.. now imagine trying to sleep through that & yeah. You pretty much don't. Sailors usually follow the trade winds to avoid going against the wind.. but sometimes you've just got to face it. This was a SEMI fun upwind sail.. and pretty satisfying to see the numbers and watch how well La Vagabonde performs. - Elay xx
