Tunisia bound aboard our sailboat Kaia 🇹🇳 ⛵️ Waiting for the right weather window, we consider factors such as wind patterns and sea states to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey. As we set off from Sardinia, we bid farewell to it’s stunning coastline dotted with rugged cliffs and azure waters. We sail southward, into the immense open sea, with only the sound of the wind and waves for company. 48hours of non-stop sailing lays ahead! Navigating the Mediterranean waters requires careful navigation and seamanship. We keep a lookout for other vessels as we sail under the moonlight. It’s difficult to explain the feeling of freedom as our boat glides through the endless expanse of blue. We approach the coastline of Tunisia, marvelling at the sight of the ancient ruins and bustling ports. After two days of sailing, arriving in Monastir marks the culmination of our voyage (our longest sail yet). We dock the boat and can’t wait to step ashore and discover the rich and vibrant culture of Tunisian culture, our new home for the next few months! Sono un po’ di giorni che guardiamo il meteo e lo lasciamo lì. Siamo stati fermi in una rada a nord di Guadalupa per far sfogare il mare: onde di tre metri e venti tesi sferzavano sopravento all’isola. Così abbiamo preferito lavorare tranquilli e prenderci il nostro tempo. Questa mattina ci svegliamo, aggiorniamo il meteo e vediamo una finestra. Ora o (quasi) mai più. Partiamo. Via la cima di prua dal gavitello e via. Il mare ci presenta onde al traverso, figlie della mareggiata dei giorni scorsi (da noi in Mediterraneo la definiamo onda morta, chissà se vale anche per l’oceano). Apriamo il Genoa e solo lui, visto che la situazione meteo non è stabile e gestirci in due l’ammainare una randa sotto groppo non è super gestibile. Julia Comunque si sgroppa di dosso le alghe formatesi in questi giorni e corre tra i 7 e gli 8 nodi verso Antigua. Corriamo sotto il sole, sperando che non se ne vada prima del nostro ormeggio. Anche fosse, poco importerebbe, ma la luce rende comunque tutto più semplice. A domani! Andrea

We LOVE Nando’s Peri-Peri sauce, but it's is hard to find (and pricey!) in Trinidad, so I decided to make my own version. The result; something that's smoky, spicy, tangy and full of flavour, which we can adapt to local ingredients as we sail around the work. 👉 Recipe: https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/post/homemade-nando-s-peri-peri-sauce To start, I char-grilled onions and capsicum (bell peppers) on the boat, then blended them with garlic, hot peppers, and spices. The mixture simmered then cooled before being emulsified it with oil. The result? A bright orange, homemade Peri-Peri sauce that’s just as good as Nando’s! After backpacking Asia, road tripping Europe and doing a bit of van life, we’re now exploring the world aboard our Leopard 45 catamaran.
