Well… a lot happens. 😅 Today I’m: ⛽️ Filling our water tanks and running the engine 💧 Filtering marina water so nothing nasty grows in our tanks 🧽 Cleaning and UV-protecting all our clears (Malaysia’s sun is no joke) 🚪 Fixing the bathroom door after our holding tank exploded (yes… exploded) ❄️ Defrosting our freezer for the millionth time 🛠️ Attempting multiple DIY repairs with Shelly as my “assistant” ☕️ Making coffee on our new espresso machine 💨 Cleaning dusty fans, polishing surfaces, and keeping our tiny home livable 🌧 Enjoying the rain at the end of monsoon season 🎥 And ending the night at the Langkawi night market with friends Boat life isn’t glamorous — it’s real, messy, nonstop work… But every day I get better, stronger, and a little more proud of the life we’re building. What was supposed to be a calm sail quickly turned into a wild birthday at sea… and the captain (me!) definitely didn’t see this surprise coming. 🎂🌊 After weeks of storms, jellyfish stings, and sleepless nights, we finally started making our way back down from Thailand to Malaysia before Jesse flies back to the mines. But this crossing had it all — flat calm seas, wild squalls, and one massive birthday surprise that left us both shocked (and with dinner sorted for the week!). What started as a simple sail to drop our friends off in Koh Lanta quickly turned into one of the roughest days we’ve ever had at sea. We set off in high spirits — five friends onboard, blue skies, and a fresh catch for dinner — but as the day went on, the weather closed in fast. By the time we reached the coast, the wind was howling at 40 knots, waves were breaking over the bow, and our anchor started dragging. We tried to wait out the storm, but Mother Nature had other plans. After six months of living aboard Stella, we’ve learned a lot about sailing — but this storm threw everything at us. It tested our nerves, our teamwork, and our boat more than ever before. From losing the engine mid-storm to turning back for safety, it was a true lesson in what it means to respect the ocean. Eight unforgettable days at sea We left Malaysia and sailed across the Andaman Sea to Thailand — right in the middle of monsoon season. It was a gamble, but luck was on our side. We’ve upgraded from a van to a sailboat… and believe it or not, our 39-foot sailboat is the biggest home we’ve ever had. For seven days, we took our floating home — a 39-foot Jeanneau sailboat named Stella — completely off-grid to test if we’re truly ready to sail around the world. In this episode, we sail 32 nautical miles around Langkawi, Malaysia, through limestone cliffs, hidden inlets, and dense mangroves that feel like another world. We discovered the famous “Hole in the Wall,” a secret passageway where no other sailboats were anchored, and had it all to ourselves. From monkeys in the trees to eagles soaring overhead, it felt like living inside a wild, untouched paradise. But living off-grid on a sailboat isn’t always easy — and this week threw everything at us. ⚡ We battled huge storms during rainy season, climbed the mast after our furler jammed, and faced battery issues that tested our new electrical system. At the same time, we finally got to try out our new solar panels, davits, and tender, putting Stella to the test as our future world-traveling home. This week was also extra special because it was our kitten Shelly’s first sail. Meet Shelly, the sailing kitten 🐾⛵️ Two weeks ago we rescued her on the island of Langkawi, Malaysia, and now she’s officially the newest crew member aboard our 39-foot sailboat Stella. From malnourished island kitten to curious boat cat in training, she’s learning the ropes (literally!) of sailing life at sea. We set sail through Malaysia’s wild islands and hidden fjords, starting in the stunning Langkawi archipelago. Along the way we spot monkeys in the mangroves, sea eagles circling overhead, monitor lizards sunbathing, and even massive jellyfish drifting past our hull. After a 7-hour sail through fishing boats and island channels, we anchor at a remote island called Singa Besar There we hike across the jungle, discover a beautiful hidden beach, and share a barbecue with other cruisers. Along the way, I also share a moment that really matters: the reality of plastic and trash washing up on these otherwise perfect shores, and why it’s so important to recycle and protect our oceans. Life aboard isn’t always calm — a huge squall rolls in, putting our anchor to the test and drenching us in tropical rain. But just as quickly, the skies clear and we’re rewarded with a magical day filled with music, dancing, and laughter. We’re joined on this adventure by our friend Ana from Serbia (who now lives in Bali), making this a true crew adventure through paradise and storms alike. Living alone on a sailboat isn’t always sunset cocktails and ocean breezes — sometimes it’s leaking bilge water, leg infections, mystery wires, and engine grime- In today’s video, I take you through a real day in my life on board Stella (our 39ft Jeanneau) while my boyfriend’s away. I start the day with breakfast and a not-so-glam trip to the hospital to clean up a leg infection. Then it's back to the boat for some bilge troubleshooting, engine cleaning, and trying to figure out where all these mystery wires go!
