The reef definitely delivered for us this trip with a good haul of coral trout. So that called for Jason's fabulous coconut and lime dish that really suits a succulent fish like a coral trout. It helped that we'd secured some coconuts while at Middle Percy Island so we had fresh coconut to add to the dish, but a good desiccated or shaved coconut is also good to add if you have it. With a belly full of lobster from Faith Reef, we head just up the road to Darley Reef to see what treasures it might have hiding beneath the surface. Carefully picking our way into a secluded lagoon, we're once again reminded why the Great Barrier Reef is one of the most spectacular places on Earth. Crystal-clear water, vibrant coral and complete isolation – it feels like our own private paradise. After a quick warm-up underwater, Jason finds his rhythm and lands an incredible haul of eight fat coral trout. Back aboard ARGO, he turns the fresh catch into a couple of delicious meals, including a simple coconut and lime coral trout recipe that's packed with flavour. But the journey north isn't over yet. Faith Reef delivered some of the most spectacular conditions we've seen on our sailing journey. After a quick stop in Airlie Beach, we set our sights on the outer reefs of the Great Barrier Reef, chasing a forecast of calm weather and crystal-clear water. We overnighted at Nelly Bay near Gloucester Island, made an unexpected detour into Bowen for an emergency cat food run for Meeshka, then continued north to Cape Upstart before launching out to the reef. What happened next exceeded all expectations. We decided to push a little further out to Faith Reef and were rewarded with some of the most spectacular conditions we've experienced on our sailing journey. Glassy turquoise water, incredible visibility, beautiful coral gardens and an abundance of marine life make this a stop we'll never forget. Jason stepped up his spearfishing game and finally ticked a Painted Rock Lobster off the bucket list, while Kym landed the biggest fish of her life – a delicious Shark Mackerel. Along the way we snorkelled amongst vibrant coral, dodged curious reef sharks, paddleboarded across crystal-clear water and enjoyed a few of the coconuts we collected from Middle Percy Island. Experiences like this remind us just how extraordinary the Great Barrier Reef really is and why we keep coming back. We took a moment to stop by Manta Ray Bay, Hook Island, Whitsundays and we were soooo glad that we did. What an underwater wonderland this spectacular place is. The marine life there was simply incredible. Huge Maori Wrasse swam alongside us without a care in the world, curious Batfish followed us around like underwater puppies, and Giant Trevally cruised past looking like they'd spent years lifting weights at the gym. After leaving our ARGO sign at the famous A-Frame on Middle Percy Island, we set our sights on the Whitsundays. The journey north began with an overnight sail to Scawfell Island, arriving in darkness and a little puckering with winds gusting to 37 knots! From there, we made a quick stop at Shaw Island before heading to Hamilton Island to pick up friends for a cheeky day sail. Thanks for coming along Karen and Steve : ) Then it was time to explore some of our favourite parts of the Whitsundays. We overnighted in Cid Harbour before heading to the crystal-clear waters of Butterfly Bay on Hook Island for some much-needed snorkelling. But the highlight was undoubtedly Manta Ray Bay. The marine life there was simply incredible. After soaking up some of the best snorkelling the Whitsundays has to offer, we sailed the 19.5 nautical miles back to Airlie Beach, arriving just in time for a spectacular sunset and a much-needed reprovision (and to pick up our watermaker part - thanks Brett for the swift fix) before our next adventure – heading out to the Great Barrier Reef for some spearfishing and glassy water. After days tucked away in Island Head Creek waiting for the wind to ease, we finally make our move north – a 44 nautical mile sail across to the stunning Percy Isles. And along the way… we finally catch a fish! 🎣 Jason shares the fishing setup we use aboard ARGO (designed to keep things safe and manageable when battling fish offshore), while Kym turns the catch into a fresh tuna ceviche that absolutely hit the spot. Our first stop is South Percy Island – beautiful, but definitely a little rolly at anchor – before continuing on to the iconic Middle Percy Island. There, Jason delivers our hand-carved wooden ARGO sign to the legendary A-Frame at the Percy Island Yacht Club, joining the thousands of cruising boats who’ve left their mark before us. A very special moment for us aboard ARGO. And then… after more than 12 months of trying… we FINALLY got coconuts 🥥😂 A small victory perhaps, but one that brought an unreasonable amount of joy. In 2025, we dropped in to see the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) at John Brewer Reef just off Townsville - and WOW, what a cool concept! The sculptures are nestled in the reef and over time, will become part of it. Apart from the 8 Ocean Sentinels (which all have a connection to the reef and a cool story), there's also a Coral Greenhouse (holding the Guiness World Record for the largest underwater art structure). Strong winds were closing in, so we sailed from Great Keppel Island to the safety of Island Head Creek – but not before an unforgettable escort from a playful pod of dolphins who made a beeline for ARGO and surfed the bow with us for ages. Moments like that never get old. Once tucked safely inside the creek, we rode out eight days of 30+ knot winds and rain. With nowhere to go, we settled into creek life – tackling boat jobs, playing Scrabble, reflecting on how much has changed for us this season… and in a moment of questionable judgement, Kym gave Jason a haircut for the very first time. Safe to say the ARGOnaut Barber Shop won’t be opening anytime soon. We also chat about what 45 days aboard this season has taught us – from reduced anxiety and growing confidence, to a new tender setup that’s completely changed the way we explore. After a sporty 28nm sail from Yellow Patch to Great Keppel Island in winds topping out at 28.5 knots, we flew across the water at 6–7 knots and arrived just in time for a stunning sunset over the bay. The next few days were classic Keppel adventures. We explored the hidden beauty of Leekes Creek by tender, wandered Putney Beach for a well-earned beach bar burger and beer, and then it was time for the latest round of the ARGO Fishing Comp. The rules are simple: • 1 point per fish • 2 points if it’s a keeper • Score resets at every new location This round? Kym absolutely dominated with an 11:0 victory… although every single fish was undersized and went back over the side. But she reckons it still counts and her sundowners were definitely deserved. After some strong winds kept us tucked away near Cape Capricorn, we decided to make the most of it and explore Yellow Patch on Curtis Island – and wow, this place delivered. With just 0.4m under the keel on entry during a spring tide, we carefully eased ARGO into this secluded anchorage and found ourselves surrounded by towering golden sandhills and crystal-clear shallows. It was tight… very tight… but absolutely worth it. We grabbed the paddleboards and headed ashore to tackle the famous Yellow Patch sandhill. The climb was brutal (around a 40-degree angle!), but the sweeping views over the coastline made every step worth the leg burn. Back onboard, the falling tide had us keeping a very close eye on the depth under the keel. Using the paddleboard oar as our very scientific measuring device, we realised things were getting a little too shallow for comfort… so up came the anchor and forward we edged by a few metres to stay safe for the night. With that little drama sorted, it was time for a relaxed evening aboard – another fruitless fish from the deck satisfied with a few sundowners, and plans for tomorrow’s sail to Great Keppel Island. Sometimes the tricky spots turn out to be the most memorable. Thanks for watching. We head north from Boyne Island to the tip of Curtis Island, chasing shelter at Cape Capricorn – but not before a bit of unexpected drama to kick things off. Before we could even leave, we had to drop the anchor back down and let out most of the chain to sort a messy tangle wrapped up in it – likely picked up at Pancake Creek after all that swinging around. A quick reset over by the public jetty did the trick, and with that sorted, we were finally free to go. What followed was a proper sporty sail. With winds peaking at 26 knots, we hit 9.4 knots and took the chance to throw in a genoa gybe – ARGO absolutely loving it. Once safely tucked in at Cape Capricorn, it was time to make the most of it. With a delivery from our legend mate Ros (thanks again! xx), we ticked off a few boat jobs – replacing worn press studs and bungee loops on our clears and screens. Easier than expected… always a win. What an underwater wonderland Lady Elliot Island is! We had the pleasure of swimming with these gorgeous turtles whilst there - always such a treat. Waiting out weather isn’t always glamorous… but sometimes it’s exactly what you need. We drop anchor in Boyne Creek near Tannum Sands to sit tight for a few days – keeping south of Gladstone for insurance, riding out some strong winds, and making the most of a perfectly timed stop. With a supermarket just a short walk away and good friends nearby, it’s the ideal chance to reset, reprovision, catch up and finally tackle a long-overdue boat job. When we bought ARGO, we knew the bathrooms needed attention… but like many things in boat life, it kept slipping down the priority list. Not this time. With a few days to spare, we rolled up our sleeves and went all in – transforming a tired, dated space into something fresh, bright, and worthy of ARGO. It wasn’t easy, but the result? Totally worth it. With one big job ticked off, we’re feeling re-energised and ready to push north and continue the adventure. Thanks for watching. We went paddle-crabbing for the first time at Pancake Creek - paddleboarding through the mangroves hunting for mud crabs and it absolutely paid off! That's one for the bucket list for sure.
