Our first time at Yellow Patch, just inside Curtis Island off the coast of Queensland did not disappoint. What a spectacular part of our coastline. Big sandhills equal big vistas. Just gorgeous. After some strong winds kept us tucked away near Cape Capricorn, we decided to make the most of it and explore Yellow Patch on Curtis Island – and wow, this place delivered. With just 0.4m under the keel on entry during a spring tide, we carefully eased ARGO into this secluded anchorage and found ourselves surrounded by towering golden sandhills and crystal-clear shallows. It was tight… very tight… but absolutely worth it. We grabbed the paddleboards and headed ashore to tackle the famous Yellow Patch sandhill. The climb was brutal (around a 40-degree angle!), but the sweeping views over the coastline made every step worth the leg burn. Back onboard, the falling tide had us keeping a very close eye on the depth under the keel. Using the paddleboard oar as our very scientific measuring device, we realised things were getting a little too shallow for comfort… so up came the anchor and forward we edged by a few metres to stay safe for the night. With that little drama sorted, it was time for a relaxed evening aboard – another fruitless fish from the deck satisfied with a few sundowners, and plans for tomorrow’s sail to Great Keppel Island. Sometimes the tricky spots turn out to be the most memorable. Thanks for watching. We head north from Boyne Island to the tip of Curtis Island, chasing shelter at Cape Capricorn – but not before a bit of unexpected drama to kick things off. Before we could even leave, we had to drop the anchor back down and let out most of the chain to sort a messy tangle wrapped up in it – likely picked up at Pancake Creek after all that swinging around. A quick reset over by the public jetty did the trick, and with that sorted, we were finally free to go. What followed was a proper sporty sail. With winds peaking at 26 knots, we hit 9.4 knots and took the chance to throw in a genoa gybe – ARGO absolutely loving it. Once safely tucked in at Cape Capricorn, it was time to make the most of it. With a delivery from our legend mate Ros (thanks again! xx), we ticked off a few boat jobs – replacing worn press studs and bungee loops on our clears and screens. Easier than expected… always a win. Next episode – the wind sticks around, so we slip into Yellow Patch… and wow, what a place. You won’t want to miss that one. Thanks for watching. Waiting out weather isn’t always glamorous… but sometimes it’s exactly what you need. We drop anchor in Boyne Creek near Tannum Sands to sit tight for a few days – keeping south of Gladstone for insurance, riding out some strong winds, and making the most of a perfectly timed stop. With a supermarket just a short walk away and good friends nearby, it’s the ideal chance to reset, reprovision, catch up and finally tackle a long-overdue boat job. When we bought ARGO, we knew the bathrooms needed attention… but like many things in boat life, it kept slipping down the priority list. Not this time. With a few days to spare, we rolled up our sleeves and went all in – transforming a tired, dated space into something fresh, bright, and worthy of ARGO. It wasn’t easy, but the result? Totally worth it. With one big job ticked off, we’re feeling re-energised and ready to push north and continue the adventure. Thanks for watching. We’d heard that Lady Elliot Island was teeming with sea life… and it absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment we slipped into the water, we were surrounded. Schools of fish everywhere, turtles gliding effortlessly past – already enough to make this place special. But then it went to another level. An entire squadron of manta rays joined us, and what followed was one of the most incredible experiences we’ve ever had. Hours in the water, watching these graceful, majestic creatures move with such ease… it’s hard to put into words just how magical it felt to be part of their world, even for a moment. Out of the water, we took time to explore the island itself – a full loop walk that takes around 30–40 minutes and offers a completely different perspective of this unique little coral cay. And for those following along from Part 1 – the verdict on the mooring is in. We tried the northern buoy, but the southern end proved to be the better option. Both have a bit of roll, but the southern side handled the swell far more comfortably. It’s not the easiest anchorage, and definitely one to time with calmer conditions… but without a doubt, it’s worth it. Lady Elliot Island had been on our list for a long time – and now we know why. After multiple failed attempts last season, we finally get our weather window and set sail for Lady Elliot Island – a destination that’s been just out of reach for far too long. Departing from Rooney Point, we take on the 51-nautical-mile passage with high hopes… but the wind doesn’t exactly cooperate. What should’ve been a clean sail turns into a bit of a test of patience as we motor-sail our way north. But getting there was only part of it. Once we arrived, we made a call that went against what the sailing apps were telling us – choosing to moor on the northern buoy based on local advice from a dive skipper. Time will tell if that was the right move… With ARGO secured (for now), we celebrate finally making it here the only way that made sense – an 80s disco party onboard. But beneath the surface, there’s more waiting. We’ve heard this place is teeming with life – turtles, manta rays, and more – and tomorrow, we’re getting in the water to see it for ourselves. This is Part 1 of our Lady Elliot Island adventure – the journey, the decision, and the anticipation. In Part 2, we dive in – swimming with turtles, gliding alongside manta rays, and finally experiencing what makes Lady Elliot Island so special. Stick around for that episode. Thanks for watching. We sail to Wathumba Creek at the northern tip of K’gari – and it’s every bit as spectacular as promised. From sweeping views to glassy, winding waterways, this place delivers. The fishing? Not so much. A few hopeful casts turned into a humbling reminder that the ocean doesn’t always play along. But the real magic came when we took the paddleboards up the creek, gliding through calm water alongside curious local stingrays – an unforgettable encounter in one of the most beautiful corners of the coast. Back on board ARGO, it’s time to get practical again. Jason fires up the watermaker to top up our tanks, and we dive into some long-overdue passage planning – mapping out the next stretch of this adventure. This is life aboard ARGO – a mix of wild beauty, small challenges, and the quiet satisfaction of figuring it all out as we go. Thanks for watching. We sail north through the Sandy Straits and into Hervey Bay proper – and this stretch of the K’gari coastline absolutely delivers. The water colour here is something else. Clear, vibrant, and constantly changing as we make our way past remote beaches and rugged cliffs. It’s one of those moments that reminds us exactly why we chose this life. We drop anchor just south of Triangle Cliff for some well-earned rest and reset. No rush, no agenda – just time to slow down and take it all in. And of course… good food is still a priority out here. We whip up a delicious Lebanese lunch onboard (because boat life doesn’t mean compromising on great meals), before winding down with a spectacular sunset over the bay. We leave Garry’s Anchorage and begin our journey up the incredible K’gari (Fraser Island) coastline. Our first stop – South White Cliffs. With great holding and protection from the ever-reliable Easter weather in Queensland, it’s the perfect place to tuck in, reset, and get a few important jobs done onboard. Because let’s be honest… boat life is never just sailing. While at anchor, we: – Repair the sail bag using a new speed sewing awl – Deal with (yet another) toilet issue… will it ever end?! – Reroute freezer cabling under the saloon floor to free up space and improve the setup And of course, no productive day happens without good food – Kym shares a go-to frittata recipe that keeps everything running smoothly. You’ll find more of our simple boat recipes over on Instagram. This is just the beginning of our K’gari coast adventure. Next episode – we continue exploring further north along this wild and beautiful stretch of coastline. Thanks for watching. After spending the last three weeks on the hard – and some big life changes on land – we were more than ready to get back where we belong… on the water. This marks the start of Season 3 of Sailing ARGO as we begin making our way back up the Queensland coastline. We ease back in with a quick overnight stop at St Helena Island (just south of the Brisbane River) before setting off on a 120nm, 21-hour overnight sail toward one of Australia’s most well-known coastal challenges – the Wide Bay Bar. This time, the crossing was a dream compared to the 3m swell we faced on our last attempt. Even better, we got to share the experience alongside our old friend, SV Trim. After the long push, we dropped anchor at Garry’s Anchorage, K’gari, where a couple of calm nights and much-needed sleep reminded us exactly why we love this life. It feels so good to be back. Season 3… let’s go. Thanks for watching. This is the final episode in our haul-out series – the last push to get ARGO ready for the water again. After all the sanding, antifouling and maintenance work in Episode 2, we tackle some of the bigger structural jobs that have been waiting their turn. First up – fixing soft spots in the deck. It’s a long, awkward job in extremely tight spaces, but absolutely worth it. The result is a stronger, more solid deck and the peace of mind that ARGO is in great shape. We also complete the diesel tank repairs, including installing new fuel hoses so everything is running clean and reliable. With the engines sorted and the tanks repaired, ARGO is now in great shape mechanically as well. But… it wouldn’t be a haul out without a surprise. An unexpected job pops up (as they always do), extending our time on the hard by another week. Boats, hey! While we’re there, Jason makes the most of it and services the clutches, so everything is in top shape and ready for the season ahead. Along the way we tick off a number of other smaller jobs that always seem to appear when the boat is out of the water. After weeks of work, ARGO is now clean, strong and ready to sail again – and we can’t wait to get back out there and kick off sailing Season 3. Thanks for watching.
