There's a lot to consider when you live on a boat full-time, but these five systems have made a big difference to how we manage life afloat. From maintenance to log books, to task and tide tracking, t
Removing and cleaning the Airmar DST810 transducer can be a nerve-wracking job - especially when water starts pouring in! In this how-to video, Jason takes you step-by-step through the process of safely removing the DST810 from the hull, inserting the plug to prevent water ingress, and giving the unit a proper clean. Even if you don't have one, watching how this is removed without sinking the boat is surprisingly interesting. Thanks for watching. Planning a sailing passage from Great Keppel Island to the Percy Islands is no small feat-especially for new cruisers like us! From checking tide times and weather windows to choosing the best anchorages, we tackled each leg of the journey with caution, curiosity and a fair bit of research. We split the trip into five legs: - GKI to Corio Bay - Corio to Freshwater Bay - Freshwater to Pearl Bay - Pearl Bay to Hunter Island - And finally, onto the magical Percy Islands It wasn't all smooth sailing though - we had a bit of an 'oops moment' exiting Corio Bay and grazed a rock. No real damage done (except to our pride and my nerves), and it definitely sharpened our focus for the rest of the journey. We also had some of the best sails we've had so far on ARGO. It was a trip full of learning, growing confidence, and enjoying the moments that make this sailing life so worth it. In this episode we share - Our route from Great Keppel to the Percy Islands, broken into 5 legs - What we considered when planning a coastal passage - Lessons learned, great sailing, and a minor rock 'kiss' Thanks for watching. We set sail for Great Keppel Island - one of our favourite parts of the Queensland's coast - and it's every bit as magical as we remembered. Just off the shore from Yeppoon, this island still has all its natural charm, crystal-clear waters, and secluded beaches. After scrambling up some rickety steps and following a winding track through the scrub, we stumbled upon a slice of paradise. Then, with fresh oysters plucked straight from the rocks and a sundowner in hand, it was the perfect end to a perfect couple of days. Next up: we're bunny-hopping our way north toward the Percy Isles with a few coastal stops along the way. Come aboard and sail with us! Thanks for watching. Strong winds up to 32 knots forced us to seek shelter in Pancake Creek, a well-protected anchorage that became our safe haven for 12 days. With some successful fishing and calm-ish waters, it was the perfect spot to wait out the weather. Once conditions eased, we made our way north, stopping at Rodd's Peninsula before reaching Boyne Creek for some much-needed supplies and a catch-up with good friends. Next stop - the Keppels! Join us as we continue our sailing adventure up the coast. Thanks for watching. Our house battery upgrade in Mooloolaba was supposed to solve our power problems, but a month later, we're still battling low voltage. With the help of our electrician, who logged in remotely, we've made some adjustments to stabilise our power supply. Here's hoping we are on the right track now. Join us as we tackle this critical liveaboard challenge, share what we've learned along the way, and get back to reliable power for life aboard ARGO. In this video we cover: * Diagnosing ongoing low voltage issues * Adjustments made to the battery system * How remote assistance helped resolve power problems * Our plan to monitor and maintain power stability Stay Connected: Watch more of our sailing journey and life aboard ARGO here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD88yS026CBFhZ3tBm0qr20Fm5BWHtOB5 Thanks for watching.
We spent a few days in the incredible turquoise waters off Wathumba Creek at K'gari - just breathtaking how pretty it is there. But on our way down the coastline of the bay, found ourselves anchored up in what has become our worst night at anchor yet! The swell forecast didn't sound like it would be too bad, but we ended up feeling like we were in a washing machine - massive bridge deck slaps, rolling up and down like we were on the heavy load cycle of the washer, and no sleep for anyone. Clearly this won't be the last time we have a rough night (no doubt passage crossings will give us another new benchmark) but for newbies, this made us really stop and think about how we are managing and understanding the forecast. Live and learn they say! Stay Connected: Watch more our sailing journey in Playlist 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13ZiSOLxIgE&list=PLD88yS026CBFhZ3tBm0qr20Fm5BWHtOB5&pp=gAQB Thanks for watching.
With our new batteries sorted and the weather coming good, we left Mooloolaba and got the sails out towards Double Island Point, preparing ourselves to cross the Wide Bay Bar. Considered one of the five most dangerous bars to cross in Queensland, and faced with 3m swells, we ponied up and took the very rolly, wave-breaky, trek across. Then cracked on with winding our way up the Great Sandy Straits and into Hervey Bay. If you want to watch the full-length video of the Wide Bay Bar crossing, you'll find it under our Season 2 playlist, or here: https://youtu.be/BK2X2h-f4Ww Stay Connected: Watch more our sailing journey in Playlist 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13ZiSOLxIgE&list=PLD88yS026CBFhZ3tBm0qr20Fm5BWHtOB5&pp=gAQB Thanks for watching.
In April 2025, we crossed the Wide Bay Bar - one of the five most dangerous bar crossings in Queensland. With a 3.1m swell, we braced ourselves for the very rocky, rolly, wave-breaky ride across the passage. We entered the bar an hour before the high and our 38' sailing catamaran made it through fine - despite having waves breaking on all sides of us. This full-length video is for anyone who might be planning to cross the bar for the first time to see the conditions on a day like this. We hope you find it helpful. We're off and away on our liveaboard adventure. First stop Moreton Island's Big Sandhills to scrub the hulls with our new Airbuddy, then onto Bribie Island, before heading through the Mooloolaba Bar for the first time ever. We had a slightly longer than expected stay in Mooloolaba waiting out the weather and installing new house batteries, but we're out here and finally doing this. When we first stepped aboard ARGO, the helm backrest was tragically covered in thick, stubborn mould - the kind that looked ready to be thrown out (or burnt!). But instead of tossing it, we decided to tackle it head-on with a few cleaning techniques and one (whilst quite wrong) game-changing solution that saved it for another day. In this quick video, we'll show you: * What NOT to do when cleaning mould from vinyl seats * The products we tried (and the ones that failed) * The method that finally worked to restore our helm seat Stay Connected: Watch more of how we started our sailing journey in Playlist 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qdUT4t4vvM&list=PLD88yS026CBH9UgJUVWpSBNiKL5Z1lDrl&pp=gAQB Thanks for watching.
As we continued the renovations to transform ARGO, we decided to update the retro aquamarine benchtops to a stylish, modern dark grey. It wasn't all smooth sailing - there were plenty of learning moments (and a fair bit of swearing), but we're thrilled with the results. Here's how we tackled the benchtop upgrade to make ARGO feel more like home. In this video, we cover: * The step-by-step process of updating our benchtops * The challenges and lessons learned along the way * How these upgrades are helping us make ARGO our own Stay Connected: Watch more of our sailing journey here: Sailing ARGO Playlist 2 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD88yS026CBFhZ3tBm0qr20Fm5BWHtOB5 Thanks for watching.

Before the renovations began, we took ARGO on a shake-out sail to K'gari (Fraser Island) in Hervey Bay, and it was an unforgettable trip. From battling relentless rain and leaking hatches to breaking our bow roller and dealing with dead batteries, it was a rough ride - but it was all worth it when we found ourselves surrounded by seven humpback whales putting on the show of a lifetime. Becoming ARGO was a massive undertaking - from stripping off the old wrap and sandblasting the hulls (a messy, intense job!). Then applying two coats of epoxy primer, two coats of antifoul, and a race against dark clouds threatening to ruin the finish. The finale was applying the sleek new wrap with ARGO's official name and logo. Then appeasing Poseidon with a naming ceremony before officially having permission from the Sea God to float upon his oceans. It was a big process, but she looks so great now! In this video, we'll show you: * The entire hull restoration and rewrapping process for ARGO * The challenges of working with epoxy and antifoul in unpredictable weather *The final naming ceremony to appease Poseidon and seek his blessing for safe sailing Big thanks to Redland City Marina, Signs and Wraps Qld and Atlas Blasting and Coatings to bring this all to life. And huge kudos to Claire at Filter Studio for the fabulous logo design.
