► We had the opportunity to sail aboard the very first Nautitech 41 S, launched in Rochefort last June. ► Monday, June 1st. Arrival in Aruba. ► Just a few weeks earlier, Palm Pleasure 2, a brand-new 21-meter catamaran built by Multicat Algarve, had left Europe bound for Aruba, where she is now operating as a day-charter vessel for De Palm Tours. There, she reunited with her “big sister,” Palm Pleasure 1, built 25 years ago by Multicap Caraïbes in Martinique. Behind this delivery was much more than a simple passage: it represented continuity in boatbuilding, craftsmanship, trust, and family histories on both sides of the Atlantic. ► For me, this crossing went far beyond a professional delivery voyage. I wanted to go back to sea with my father. To share this adventure with him once again and try to learn everything I still could from his passion for the ocean, boats, and navigation. ► Of course, there was seasickness, days when the body was less willing to cooperate, and the lack of everyday comfort. Yet I believe this crossing also allowed me to discover that I was more capable than I had imagined. And above all, there were all those moments I will carry with me for a long time: the blazing sunsets, Venus, the stars and the Moon, the sound of the ocean, and the dolphins - again and again. We saw so many of them, far more than I had ever been lucky enough to see before. It was an almost unreal spectacle, and undoubtedly one of my strongest memories of the entire crossing. ► What I had not really anticipated when setting off to cross the Atlantic again was that the ocean no longer completely shields you from the noise of the world. When I was a child, a crossing meant disappearing for a while and disconnecting. This time, even in the middle of the Atlantic, we had Wi-Fi (thank you, Starlink!). The connection was reliable enough to maintain a constant link with land, yet not always stable enough to work comfortably. It felt strange to be both far offshore and still caught up in the rhythm of the world. ► Our arrival in Aruba reflected the crossing itself: intense, eagerly awaited, and full of emotion. Most of that emotion came from the people waiting for us. The owner of De Palm Tours was deeply moved to welcome Palm Pleasure 2, following the first catamaran ordered by his father 25 years earlier. Members of the team were there as well, some of whom had visited us in Martinique back then. One of them even remembered me as the little girl who used to wake everyone up in the morning by playing the drums. Some memories, it seems, cross the years almost as well as boats do. And then there was the future captain of Palm Pleasure 2, who was clearly eager to take delivery of her. For us, it marked the end of the voyage. For him, it was the beginning of a new story. ► After several weeks at sea, being welcomed in this way gave very tangible meaning to the entire crossing. The multihull was no longer just a project, a delivery, or a course to be maintained. ► Friday, May 22. Arrival in Martinique. ► The last few days at sea have had a strange flavor. We know we’re getting close, yet everything seems to take longer. The wind has almost completely deserted us, so we’ve been motoring for the past three days, eager to finally catch sight of land. On board, we’ve had to get a little creative. There is still plenty of food left, but the “treat” supplies disappear quickly. With just a single egg, I still managed to make crêpes twice, and even a birthday cake in a saucepan for Jean-Luc! I had also hidden away a chocolate bar to save for the final days in case we ran out. ► Tuesday, May 19. ► I didn’t make this voyage for the adventure alone. If I agreed to set off on another crossing, a second time, it was above all to spend time with my father. The sea is his native language. I grew up with it without ever really choosing it myself - born on an island, always with one foot on a boat thanks to him. I love it too, of course, but for him, it’s something else entirely. ► We got our first look at the MC75 in La Grande-Motte. But this model isn’t exactly new, with hull #1 having been launched in 2023 and already completed two seasons in the Mediterranean and one in the Caribbean. ► On board, it’s all about luxury and comfort, but performance hasn’t been overlooked, judging by the daggerboards - which retract in the event of striking something - that plunge to almost 15 feet (4.5 meters) below the surface. The builder promises, in certain conditions, speeds equal to those of the wind. We’re willing to believe it, since this catamaran, over 76 feet (23 meters) long, was clocked at 29 knots! ► A graduate of Sciences Po Paris, 31-year-old Nicolas Marcillaud could have become a senior civil servant… but in the end, it was his taste for adventure, combined with a strong fascination for ice, that led the young man toward a particularly ambitious project: sailing around the Arctic. ► In other words, a mini circumnavigation of 9,000 miles by linking the Northwest Passage and the Northeast Passage. Each route has already been sailed individually, but never both in a single season. That is precisely the challenge Nicolas has taken on. ► With a set of specifications requiring the ability to beach the boat - or even haul it onto the ice - while still prioritizing seaworthiness for ocean crossings, light-air performance, and ease of maintenance, the adventurer chose Paradox, a 10-meter trimaran. Extremely light (2 tons) and minimalist (no engine), this multihull was built in 1997. We discovered her at the end of a refit in Hennebont, near Lorient. ► While on a testing and reporting tour in southern Brittany, Multihulls World had the opportunity to visit the facilities of electric motor manufacturer Temo. ► The company’s story began in Nantes in 2018, driven by Alexandre Seux and Justine Perussel. One year later, the famous Temo450 - also known as the electric sculling oar - was launched. The young company moved to Vannes in 2023 while expanding its product range with the Temo1000 in 2024, followed last year by the Outpod1000 and Pod1000 pods, both also available in 3000 (3 kW) versions. Luc Joessel, one of the sales managers, presented all these products to us in the showroom: “We have already sold 7,500 units worldwide!” ► The site, staffed by 23 employees, also includes a large open-plan office space. Luc then guided us through a spacious communal area to the workshop where all the motors are manufactured - except for the 450. Currents can be extremely strong in this area, while numerous counter-currents can be found close to beaches, headlands, and rocks. ► So I joined Jean-Hubert Pommois, head of the shipyard, aboard his Astus 26.5, together with Jérôme, our helmsman. ► The 37th edition of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show lived up to expectations from May 21 to 24.
