For the builder, demand in the Middle East region is indeed significant, justifying an investment of nearly 30 million euros with the aim of expanding its industrial capacity by building a new state-of-the-art facility. Sunreef Yachts acquired a 16-acre (65,000 m²) site on which the construction of a first 110,000 square foot (10,000 m²) building was completed. The new yard began production in September 2023, initially employing around 50 staff. This powercat, offered by New Zealand manufacturer Voodoo Yachts and unveiled at the recent Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, features a carefully optimized hull and foils that allow it to reach speeds of up to 50 knots. In addition to this impressive speed for a 75-foot vessel, the Voodoo boasts fuel consumption well below that of an 85- to 90-foot monohull superyacht offering the same features: the usable area measures some 3,000 square feet (279 m²)... ► Our Sydney-based correspondent Kevin Green had the opportunity to sail aboard the Cure 55 following its world premiere at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. No sooner had he stepped ashore than our tester gave us his first impressions: “I’ve just tested the Cure 55. This is without doubt the most impressive performance cruiser I have sailed in years (and that’s not just because it’s Australian!) Fast, lightweight and quite maneuverable, this catamaran really has a lot to offer for 3.5 million Australian dollars.” In fact, the Cure 55 #1, which is the Performance version, is a sharp all-carbon catamaran that makes the most of its one-piece structure to keep its displacement down to just over 9 tons. The hulls are angled at 2.5° like the old Catanas, with very fine entry, slightly inverted bows, and daggerboards. The Hall Spars rig is obviously also in carbon, as is the Park Avenue boom that sits flush with the coachroof. The result? ► Full test to discover in Multihulls World N°203. ► The head-to-head between 38 and the 380 ultimately never took place, all down to the Mistral that was coming through a little too hard, blowing at over 30 knots early on our test day we’d scheduled out of Bonifacio. So, our boat tester Brieuc Maisonneuve got to sail aboard the new Lagoon 38 in lively conditions, but the 380 remained alongside the dock. His initial reaction: “We set sail in 20 knots, gusting 30. I found the catamaran very stable despite the very short sea, and the helm was very smooth. On the downside, I wasn’t so sure about the choice of a self-tacking jib: the sail is difficult to trim at points further off the wind and lacks power when sailing close to the wind, which can result in a slightly disappointing heading. ► Article complet dans Multicoques Mag N°232. ► Notre grand reporter Briec Maisonneuve a trouvé la meilleure façon de se rendre le 22 mai dernier à la journée de présentation de l’usine Yot à Aveiro, au Portugal : il a tout simplement calé le convoyage d’un Neel 43 au départ de Carteret, en Manche, vers Porto, aux bonnes dates ! « Je suis parti en solitaire le 17 mai à 12h et suis arrivé le 21 à 15h… avec seulement un litre de gazole dans le réservoir ! ». Les conditions de cette longue traite de 650 milles autour de la Bretagne et dans le golfe de Gascogne ont été en effet plutôt clémentes avec beaucoup de portant – mais également des calmes. Brieuc a également rencontré des orques qui sont juste restés curieux. Le périple s’est poursuivi vers Portimao et l’objectif final est Venise (mais cette fois notre marin-journaliste naviguera en double). ► The Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is undoubtedly the most glamorous, immersive, and unmissable boating event in the southern hemisphere. ► On Thursday May 22, Catana Group held an open day at its brand-new production facility for Yot, its new range of powercats. Located on the shores of a perfectly sheltered stretch of water in Aveiro, just south of Porto, in Portugal, the 5-acre (20,000 m²) site is adjacent to that of Xquisite Yachts. This is where the Yot 36 and 41 are produced, ahead of a larger model which we’ll be hearing more about very soon. The shipyard will eventually employ 450 people and have an annual production capacity of 200 units.
