Aquila 35 Sport | The Short | Multihulls World

► Presented as a world premiere in Cannes, the Aquila 35 Sport didn’t keep us waiting long before handing over the controls. A few days after the show, we caught up with it in Saint-Raphaël. ► Our test boat was equipped with twin 300 hp Mercury Verado V8s, with which we recorded a top speed of 36.4 knots. Already more than enough for plenty of fun, especially considering that twin 400 hp V10s are available as an option. ► At the helm, the four seats with flip-up bolsters and a proper footrest provide a very convincing driving position, while the robust handrails found throughout the boat are a reminder that this 35 is designed to go fast. The same goes for the small padded bolster running along the bulwarks: a particularly welcome detail as soon as the sea starts to build. ► But it is still aft that the Aquila 35 Sport reveals one of its cleverest features: the large bench seat can slide to port or starboard to provide easier access on either side. Two tables, a generous galley unit and the large forward bench seat complete a particularly sociable deck layout for a powercat measuring just 35'6" (10.82 m). ► And it still has another surprise below deck. Access to the cabin is on the starboard side; the steps normally providing access to the side deck retract into the console to clear the passage. With 6'4" (1.92 m) of headroom, a large bed and a particularly high-quality finish, right down to the small wood paneling lining the back of the cabin, the 35 makes it easy to extend your outing over several days. ► With the 35 and 45 Sport now in the water, Aquila has no intention of stopping there: a third model of around 40 feet is already in development.
