In this episode Mark delivers a Corbin 39 called Joker from Bermuda to Nova Scotia. The very first morning Mark discovers the Genoa flapping in the wind, the clew ring has been ripped from the sail. The cause is likely due to the webbing being damaged by UV rays. Along the way it is necessary to do some extreme route planning in order to avoid tropical storm Dexter. Jumping into a northerly flowing portion of the Gulf Stream gives a boost to get north of the storm. Also on route Mark awakes to find that he is on a collision course with the bulk carrier Kwai Kwai, and has to alter course to cross her stern. This is despite having the right of way. They don’t even acknowledge Mark’s calls on the VHF. Awaking to make regular checks is part of single handed sailing.
