We are thankful. We are proud. In this video, we visit the Doyle Sails loft in Salem, Massachusetts, and hear what he's doing for our rig. He's a professional sailmaker who's undaunted about working modern shapes and materials into this classic rig. He's updating and modernizing it using computational fluid dynamics to nail down the best shape for a cruising boat with big travel plans. And yeah, there are topsails. We see Doyle Sails' sewing machines, production floor, and the program in which Robbie Doyle is designing Arabella's sails. Since the "sail bones are connected to the spar bones", our spar builder came along, too. Keith Mitchell, @shipwrightskills-keithmitchell, talks about his thoughts on the benefits of the gaff rig we'll have on this DIY wooden sailboat. He has been preparing for the work that he will do in Vermont at his shop. Follow him on Instagram where he's posted about his progress: @shipwrightskills --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a wooden boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur wooden boat builder building a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that classic wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY boatbuilding project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat Referral: Need something TotalBoat sells?
