Winter Sailing, Finding the Perfect Dock - Episode 294 - Acorn to Arabella: Journey of a Wooden Boat
Come along as we sail and navigate chilly waters in search of a winter haven for Arabella. We've got some stunning sailing footage for you as we set sail from Sandwich, Massachusetts, with Scott and Jack aboard to crew through the sometimes-treacherous currents of Woods Hole and the challenging waters of Buzzards Bay. Known for its strong currents and weather challenges, this leg of the journey promises excitement and a test of Steve and Jack's seamanship. It's also a great chance for Scott to experience more interesting conditions as he's still learning on the water. Before their departure, Steve tracks down and repairs a bit of water ingress in the forepeak. He'll be needing an additional rivet, a hot knife, and of course, crossed fingers, as per usual. Boat maintenance is, truly, fun sleuthing. Thank you for your support, and for everyone who's here every week, leaving a comment. Here for the first time? Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A!
