I thought this crossing would be about getting from the Caribbean to France. It wasn’t. It was about learning who I am when things don’t go to plan. There were days with no wind where I drifted in circles. Days with too much wind where I barely slept. Days where the finish line felt like it kept moving further away. Days where I questioned everything. Days where I felt unstoppable. I fixed things. I broke things. I learned things. I learned that I need routine to feel good. That a dance party can completely change a bad day. That morale matters just as much as weather. That chocolate croissants taste even better in the middle of the ocean. And that dolphins can instantly improve your mood. I learned to trust myself more. Not because everything went smoothly, but because it didn’t. The biggest change isn’t in my sailing skills. It’s in my confidence. A few months ago, crossing an ocean solo still felt like something I was trying to prove I could do. Now it feels like something I do. And I think that’s the biggest gift this journey has given me. The Golden Globe Race is now less than 100 days away. There is still a mountain of work ahead. The boat isn’t ready. The paperwork isn’t done. The systems need testing. The list somehow gets longer every day. But mentally? I feel more ready than ever. This crossing didn’t just bring me to France.
