Scuba Diving: MV Shakem Wreck Dive in Grenada - Sailing Sweet Ruca

677 Bekeken· 03/10/20

We hit the water again with ScubaTech, based in Prickley Bay, Grenada. Today Mark from Sailing Catamaran MANA was with us as well. Both Kate and Mark were doing their final dives for their advanced certification. The MV Shakem sits in about 100 feet of water. She is 108 feet long. Sinking in 2001 off of St. George, Grenada, the cargo shop was carrying a heavy load of cement from Trinidad. She was rolling in heavy seas in rough weather, taking on water over the gunwales due to the amount of weight she was carrying. Visibility was not as good as our previous dives, but still was satisfactory for the overcast day we had. There was quite a bit of surface current but less at depth. We all had a great time out on this scuba dive and would encourage others to check out Grenada’s many ship wrecks. Evelin did a phenomenal job leading the dive, and Curtis’ precision boat driving put us right on the boat in the tricky current. Both of them are sailors as well.
