Sailors Beware: This Place is Chock FULL of Coral Reefs (Calico Skies Sailing Ep. 129)

Though our current spot in San Blas is pretty sweet - We get regular deliveries from veggie boats, where we load up on fresh fruits & veg, booze and chicken at great prices - it's time to check out the infamous 'Hot Tub', an anchorage just 7 miles from our current location. That means we have to navigate some intense coral reefs, some accurately depicted on our charts, some not. Before we can begin the trip we get a surprise visit from the little gecko who has taken up residence in Calico Skies - This time he shows up in our book shelf in the main salon and it's good to know he's still thriving! After making a dough for focaccia and getting our depth sounder (in a wine glass filled with water) situated against the hull, we head out to take advantage of bright sunlight. We face some huge waves on our short passage over to Hot Tub -swell from the Colombian coast - but navigate the coral reefs safely (only using our charts for reference since some of the charted reefs are WAY off). Once we arrive to our new anchorage though, there are more reefs to carefully weave through. A VERY narrow entrance to the Hot Tub makes us a bit nervous. The tops of the reef are visible on both sides of the 20 foot channel so at least sight lines are good. Once anchored in gorgeous Hot Tub Bill works on syphoning water out of our tank since we've low on good drinking water. Our water maker membranes are shot adding to the long list of broken systems on the boat. The next day we discover the underwater promised land here in San Blas. Unbelievable coral - the largest and most vibrant we've ever seen - And lot's of colorful fish. As we dive we share our observations on the sea life here versus other places we've dived such as the Bahamas and Caribbean.
