Ep 4: Boating up the River Thames dodging fast water taxis, river cruisers, thrill seekers and cargo vessels. Sailing from Wells-next-the-Sea to Lowestoft, Harwich, Gillingham, London, Queenborough, Ramsgate and Eastbourne. Options takes us down, around the east coast of England and up rivers over 320 nautical miles, with an unnecessary detour to London to see Queen Elizabeth Bridge, Thames Barrier, Millennium Dome and more on our way to the East End and London Docklands, which at one time was one of the worlds largest ports. Why take a detour of 100 nautical miles when our aim is the Long Way Down to The Med? We had two weeks left on our 12-month Hull Marina contract which (at the time) allowed customers to moor up in associated marinas without paying extra. Limehouse Marina and Hull Marina are both currently owned and managed by Aquavista. London had been my working home for a couple of years and still holds a nostalgic interest. What better way than to see the river sights from your own boat? Then there's time for another detour. Ramsgate is the port we chose to leave the UK from - but we're not doing that until we've sailed the south coast to the Isle of Wight. Find out why in Episode 5.
