Sailing Solo to San Clemente Island and buddy boating (June 2024)

In this episode, we solo sail to San Clemente Island with svAeroNautical @sailingflightlevelzero , a Beneteau Oceanis 42CC, and svBlueAweigh, a Catalina Morgan 440. We continue to sea trial our Hydrovane mechanical wind vane across lighter and heavier winds. We take advantage of buddy boating as a learning experience to calibrate how we are sailing (and motoring!) relative to other sailboats. Winds were light en route to San Clemente Island, but westerlies kicked off just as we turned around Pyramid head. We had a comfortable overnight at the Pyramid Cove anchorage. On the return passage, we picked up a bottle containing a message, hove to, and enjoyed sailing in winds steadily increasing from single digits to 23 knots.
