Sailing During Covid: Low Fuel.. Can we Divert?! (Calico Skies Sailing Ep.107)

We knew the route from Mexico to Panama would require a lot of motoring and that there was always a possibility we would have to divert course to get more fuel. Traveling during COVID makes these passage decisions even more difficult. Our route to Panama has three potential pit stops for Calico Skies; Cayman Islands, San Andreas, and Providencia. We contacted the Cayman authorities for permission to fuel up with no reply and now travel from both San Andreas and Providencia is banned by the Panamanian government. Decisions Decisions.. With fuel levels running low we opt to sail as efficiently as possible. Bill shows the crew how to reef/unreef Calico Skies, a process that will be repeated many times to maximize forward progress. We decide to press on and aim the bow to start the transit of known pirate waters off the coast of Honduras/Nicaragua.
