In this episode we get to hitch a ride on one of the World's most amazing boat lifts: The Ronquieres Inclined Plane! 🔔 CLICK TO SUBSCRIBE ➜ https://www.sailingbritaly.com/subscribe ⛵ Join our Patreon Crew here! ➜ https://www.patreon.com/SailingBritaly The Ronquieres Inclined Plane is a ship lift / boat lift / boat elevator on the Brussels - Charleroi Canal. It has a length of 1,432 metres and lifts boats through 67.73 metres vertically. It consists of two large caissons mounted on rails. Each caisson has a water depth between 3 and 3.70 metres. It can carry one boat of 1,350 tonnes or many smaller boats within the same limits. Each caisson has a 5,200-tonne counterweight running in the trough below the rails. It takes 50 minutes in total to pass through the 1,800 metres of the entire structure, including the raised canal bridge at the top end. We were astounded by the scale and ingenuity of this innovative structure. This video goes into quite a lot of detail regarding the engineering behind this ship lift, and has been created with the intention of answering many of the questions a viewer may have about the Ronquieres Boat Lift. It took over 60 hours of my time (Chris) to edit this one video! We would like to say a huge thank you to our Patreon Crew, who have been so instrumental in motivating us to keep spending so much time creating our videos over the years.
