When did the progressives decide the citizenry was the enemy? Adding some comments: I received some interesting feedback off of youtube that was mostly amusing enough to paste over here. Most of it has nothing to do with the actual video, but is fun: response: "I think the problem here is that there are actually gun nuts and white supremacists and the South Will Rise Again prepper/militia types who are actually racist and crazy...or at least heavily adjacent to it, so he's pretty disingenuous to just talk about himself as some stable veteran who knows how to use weapons and not place the existence of what is actually concerning people on the left. " Rebuttal: Most "militia types" are not racist, southern, do not want to recreate the CSA, and ARE NOT "adjacent to it". (I suspect anyone with a gun and a associative group that she dislikes is automatically racist and militia, since she uses these things in her comment as poorly defined trigger words) I cannot respond to the rest of her comment until she starts making some sense. quote: "Guns are a fundamental aspect of American individuality, but I agree that we as people need to work out the issues between the stigma and the responsibility." The stigma is manufactured. I'm not sure what else to say, here. the issues of stigma are largely the product of social engineering. The issues of responsibility are never- NEVER- accurately stated, framed, modeled, or understood by people who advocate for gun control. Quote: "one of his core arguments has no baseline in any kind of reality."I should have more and better weapons than the government agencies" "I don't care for gun control because I distrust the government, and I should be better armed."" That's not one argument. Okay, mea culpa, I should have MUCH more simply stated that when I referred to government agency police forces that I was, specifically, referring to government agency POLICE FORCES. In general terms, I should be better armed, or at LEAST have access to equivalent arms, as any domestic police agency. I was wrong to not spell that out in clearer, C A T spells cat, terms. second- Nope. MY concern with gun control is not primarily that I distrust government. That's a factor, yes, but not the basis of what I am talking about in the video. As it happens, gun control legislation is always racist, classist, and almost always (95% plus) intended as a "step towards" complete eradication of the second amendment. I HAVE second amendment rights in PART because governments are not trustworthy, yes. and that's a big part. But that is also not the "core argument" (and even if it was, it could easily argue that it does have a baseline in reality) Quote: "it's an icon of the enemy for the democrats" == pure hilarity. Time for someone to get out and maybe talk to the coastal people. Yet, it is. Guns have become psychological and magickal icons for many groups of people. You can laugh, and suggest that because you assume I'm not "coastal people" I'm a dumb hick. But I have spent a large part of my life in California, NoVa, Washington- to some extent I AM coastal people and I know and am related to quite a few others. I base a lot of what I say on...coastal people. To a large extent they drive the discourse. Quote: "Yeah, the sovereign citizen thing made me squint hard." didn't say sovereign citizen.
