America’s Cup winner Jimmy Spithill is normally to be seen sailing at high speed on foils, but at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez he’s retuned to the roots of sailing, helming Monaco Yacht Club’s famous 1909 Fife-designed ketch Tuiga, skippered by Pierre Casiraghi. Jimmy explains the challenges of steering the boat and the work entailed in safely gybing Tuiga’s huge boom and gaff without a single winch on board to help.
