From the Straits of Mackinac to Sault Ste. Marie — Sailing SV Freelance Ep. 33

We left Mackinaw City in the morning; dodged the Norwegian cruise ships on the roads off Mackinac Island; crossed northern Lake Huron towards the St. Mary’s River in squally conditions; and the next day climbed up against the river’s moderate current to the friendly George Kemp Marina at Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. (also known as The Soo). Along the way, we also did some freighter spotting, often seeing the big lakers and salties up close. Satellite images courtesy of Google Earth.
