Figgy Cake al la Lila

When the crows start loitering and the cawing becomes too loud, and the fat squirrels start wobbling across the yard, you know the figs have hit peak ripeness. With an assembled elite team of Lila and Isaac, we went on fig patrol and shooed off the crows, outmaneuvered the squirrels, and managed to rescue enough figs for a well-earned treat. Back in the kitchen, Peter and Chef Lila sliced and diced the fresh figs, drizzled generous amounts of honey on top like culinary artists, splashed in a bit of lemon juice, and simmered the whole mix down until it transformed into a thick, glorious fig jam. Once cooled, we spooned the jam over cake bowls, built a skyscraper of whipped cream, and crowned each masterpiece with cherries.
