Exploring a strange abandoned picnic ground - post apocalypse?

On a recent hike looking for potential stealth camping spots I stumbled across this abandoned picnic ground. Hadn't seen any maintenance for years by the looks of it. There was a backyard style BBQ left on the footpath where a tree had fallen - very strange.
