The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is an automatic tracking system using ship's transceivers and used by Vessel Traffic Services (VTS). You can have an AIS transceiver for the price of a dinner with your partner, and without installation, running cables or changing antennas. In this episode I explain how you can get it and how to program it. Also, if you change boats, you can take it with you and change the MMSI without having to take it to the factory like conventional equipment. Another advantage is that it is completely independent of the rest of the boat systems, with its own battery, GPS and antenna, so that if the other systems fail, it continues to send your position, and you can also take it with you if necessary. There are many models to choose from. I have no affiliation nor do I receive any kind of financial compensation for any of them or the websites where you can get them. Just google "AIS network locator". But I can show you some examples of where to get them. On Aliexpress for 51 pounds!! (at the time of posting this video) https://rb.gy/8rywap Be careful, there are different models. If you buy the wrong model, you may not be able to change the boat's measurements. Some models use measurements to indicate the battery level; for example, when the battery is 100%, your boat will display 100 meters in length. The model I use is the ST-109M. Ship and Cargo list (ship type) https://api.vtexplorer.com/docs/ref-aistypes.html Now it's time to download the programmer. For that I rely on @TheLowCostSailor I have downloaded everything from his page and I am going to use his links. I highly recommend that you follow him, he is a real Youtuber!
