Ep 2 Sailing the BVIs 2015 Cruz Bay and Christmas Cove USVI
Ep 2- We leave Norman Island for Cruz Bay to clear into the USVI. Our intent was to overnight at Coral Harbor on St. John and then head for a big passage across to St. Croix. But wind and swells worked against us as a south wind built. The swells were huge, and we knew beating against them would make for a rough ride. It was imperative that we make the crossing in one day as the yacht charter companies are all emphatic that there will be no nighttime sailing. We decided to bail on St. Croix and instead spent the night in Christmas Cove, on the back side of Great St. James Island (USVI). It wasn't the best anchorage, but the snorkeling was good and we're glad we did it. From there, we hoisted the sails and headed for Sopers Hole on the east end of Tortola. The wind increased dramatically as the day wore on, and there's great footage of it. Squalls passed through too, and we had an absolute blast. Late in the day we finally cleared back into the BVI at Sopers, and then had a fun afternoon and evening ashore. What a great time!
