Deep in the HURRICANE ZONE: Sailing Bohemia Ep.68
After dropping the anchor in the cruiser's paradise of Barra de Navidad, what better way to begin the stay than hailing the local French Bakery on VHF and having them drop off freshly baked croissants and baguettes for breakfast?! 😍👌🥳 We seriously fell in love with Barra, for us the beautiful surrounding and tasteful hillside resort were a real highlight that we hope to revisit on the way south. Perhaps even more surprising, they actually let us in to have a look around the beautiful hotel and try out the pool! We were reminded though, that the area in right in the middle of the East Pacific hurricane belt and was badly hit by 2015 Hurricane Patricia, the strongest hurricane EVER RECORDED by wind speed, which by the way reached 215Mph!! There were some sadly wrecked sailboats in the lagoon, tied to the surrounding mangroves for hope of protection. There was also another much bigger reminder at the entrance to the bay, the wreck of the enormous container ship Los Llanitos, which was ordered out of port and into the path of the oncoming storm. After a tour of the spectacular shipwreck, we relaxed a bit with our new friends David and Rebecca in their local beachfront bar before reluctantly turning Bohemia around and departing north, ready for our own hurricane season preparations. If you like our videos and want to support Bohemia's bar tab, you can make a contribution at http://www.patreon.com/sailingbohemia. Peter and Tom are gay sailors who learned to sail relatively recently in the San Francisco Bay, before casting off the lines to cruise Mexico and sail around the world! Thank you!
