Catana Ocean Class 50 NEEL Yard: Plateau nautique 17000 La Rochelle Cedex – France Catana Yard: Av. Capitaine Delestrain, 66140 Canet-en-Roussillon, Franc Wine: 2 impasse du ière, 66220 Ansignan, France Participate in the Dave Score: https://forms.office.com/r/ZGHTdGV9xG Welcome back to Naval Gazing at Camp David. This week’s guest yacht is a fresh new design from an old and respected name in the multihull industry. The Catana Ocean Class 50! Today we are going to 1. Review its specifications, pricing and layout against three similar new vessels…you may be surprised by the price and performance 2. Do a full tour asking, “What would Sylvia say?” …there is a lot for her to like 3. Naval Gaze at an innovation and/or adjustment that might make life aboard easier (Hint...have you ever forgotten to close the hatch at night when it starts to rain? ) 4. Have a look at the used market for 3-5 year old comparables 5. And finally give it a “Dave Score” and compare the result with all our previously reviewed yachts. From our perch high over Vancouver British Columbia, we swing over to the West Coast of France and last week’s shipyard, NEEL Trimarans in La Rochell. From there we head southeast to the Mediterranean coast of France and the Catana Shipyards in Canet-en-Roussillon. Finally, we jump inland to the Languedoc – Roussillon wine region and the vinyards of Jeff Carrel and our wine pairing with the Ocean Class 50, Cotes Du Roussillon Villages "La Bette" Red Blend Roussillon. La Bette The label of this wine represents the Roussillon region and its wealth in culture, of its habitants, land and sea, winemakers and fishermen. La Bette is the unique fishing boat used on the Mediterranean coasts. The Grape varieties in this blend are: 50% Syrah / 15% Carignan / 35% Grenache It’s a Transparent garnet-red, slightly purplish. The nose offers Fresh, tonic, notes of wild black fruits, a small touch of yoghurt and spices. The pallet reveals Soft, rounded intense fruit flavours (blackcurrant), rich and juicy. The after-taste is slightly chewy, but not harsh, once again blackcurrants and spices. With time to air, it becomes richer, greedier and more intense. To be even more precise, he discovered a small town, Pont-Aven, through his fellow artists, such as Pissarro and Jobbé Duval. Described as a town of “14 moulins, 15 maisons” (14 mills, 15 houses) as a parody of how small it was, Pont-Aven took a special place in his soul, and he returned here over the years. His work was influential on the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, and he is well known for his relationship with Vincent and Theo van Gogh.
