Canadian builder wins 2025 Work Boat World - "Best Multi-Purpose Fishing Boat"

Congratulations are in order for Canadian boat builder Tideline Welded Aluminum Boats, who just won the Baird Maritime 2025 Work Boat World Award for Best Multi-Purpose Fishing Boat with their latest build for the 46 South Fishing Company. Collaborating with the Australian naval architecture firm Southerly Designs and Toura Boats, the Sunshine Coast based builder has set a new standard for building a rugged and versatile commercial fishing vessel. Powered by a single MAN D2868 V8 1000HP diesel, FV Kaitiaki was designed as a blend of a commercial and recreational vessel, built to be comfortable for extended trips for both family time and the owner's various fishing seasons. The MAN engine drives a Veem propller through a gearbox fitted with smart controls providing both high performance and low-speed control, allowing the vessel to work at speeds as low as 1.8 knots, ideal for the prawn and longline fishing seasons in the Pacific Northwest. With a focus on comfort, the boat features a full-beam captain's quarters beneath the raised pilot house and an additional v-berth with twin bunks for crew. With a 16' beam, the aft deck is an efficient work space and the port side head being aft on the deck doubles as a dry room for wet gear, keeping the cabin area clean for crew comfort.
