This week, curtesy of Bruce and Sarah from SV Catabatic, we are invited to join in their annual fun, building small boats from natural materials found on Urupukapuka Island. To give everyone else a chance we arrive fashionably late and only had 15 minutes to throw together our vessels. They floated, but realistically don’t pose a threat to any of the other competitors. (The boat that leaves all the others in its wake just happens to be Bruce’s). We also take a whistle stop look at the beautiful historic town Russell, New Zealand’s first European settlement. Then we sail north to Matauri Bay where we learn about another first, The sinking of Rainbow Warrior by the French. New Zealand’s first act of International Terrorism.
