[16] Where to start sailing

A question we are often asked is "What is the best way to start sailing?" You could buy a big yacht and start learning but it is expensive and if you do not like the feel of sailing it will cost you a lot of time, effort and money. Try popping down to the local marina and telling the owner of a 40ft boat that you want to have a go steering their pride and joy and see how far you get..... :-) A simpler and cheaper way is to start at a local Dinghy club and (quite literally) learn the ropes. Almost everything you learn is transferable to larger boats and it has the added advantage that you will be captain of your own dinghy in very short order.
