We continued our voyage up the Gulf of California, stopping at the beautiful crescent shaped harbor on Isla San Francisco before sailing north to Puerto Escondido and the Loreto National Marine Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is full of beautiful island anchorages, an abandoned salt mining town, and some of the best panaramic views of our cruise so far. We sailed past breaching whales and pods of dolphins, the rich life in the sea contrasting to the desert ruggedness on land. After so much time on the sea, we also headed inland to see a historic mission high in the mountains at San Javier. Julia is a traditionally built wooden boat, planked in fir on oak frames. She was launched in 1960, and is still a great boat for cruising the world's oceans!
