This episode shows the final chapter of our adventures aboard our Nordhavn 40, M/V Cassidy. After almost 2 years and over 5,000 nautical miles not he boat, we decided to put her up for sale and move to another boat. Spoiler alert: its another Nordhavn! Not a whole lot of action in this episode but we discuss the process of selling the boat, show some of the survey that the buyer had done as part of the due diligence of purchasing our boat, and a glimpse into all of the packing and moving that we are still doing as we transition to the next boat. Watch to the end for a glimpse at our new boat, which we will soon be cruising on from Florida towards the Panama Canal and Mexico. Cassidy (the kid) decided that she didn’t want the new boat named after her so we shall have to make some decisions about what to do with the name of this channel as we start making episodes aboard our new boat. An inner forestay has been added to accommodate a storm jib. The Beneteau Oceanis 43 is a modern and fully capable cruising yacht and in Oui Ca Va this is proven in the yachts successful recent passage from Western Australia to the East Coast. The twin wheel cockpit is spacious, comfortable, practical and safe. Three of the four winches are electric, the genoa winches are easily reached from the helms, the transom is easily made walk-through with the lifting helm seat, there is a good sized folding cockpit table plus there is impressive locker storage (including twin gas bottle storage). Down below this is the three cabin, two head lay out offering the owners cabin forward. Light is welcomed into the saloon with large overhead skylights and hatches plus side windows give excellent views, all can be closed by blinds or shutters. The main head and shower features a separate shower stall with screen. The battery bank has been doubled and charging is assisted by a wind generator plus a portable Honda generator. Oui Ca Va was anti fouled in July 2018 and engine serviced in November 2018. A Zodiac tender with 5Hp Yamaha outboard are included which further make this a genuine sail away option. After launching and commissioning in Florida in 2010, she has lived for blue water adventure. Her original owners are a very experienced offshore powerboating couple who previously cruised a Hatteras 58 LRC and longed for a platform that would extend their cruising range and season. Hull number 19 in the series allowed for a great collection of ideas and improvements from the earlier builds to be incorporated. The couple spent time with other Nordhavn 68 owners and cruised in excess of 2,000 NM on sister ships to consolidate their ideas. The result was a very detailed order that had many milestone improvements, many of which were integrated into later new builds. The husband made it a point to visit the yard in Taiwan at least every other month during the build to better understand the construction and placement of equipment and systems for future servicing. This dedication to the process resulted in an exceptional boat, better informed owners and a very close relationship with the yard personnel that is very rare. For great assistance in getting the equipment selections right and confirming the correctness and quality of the build, Steve D’Antonio was hired due to his technical expertise. Steve has been involved in the legacy of Migration from the days of signing a contract, through construction in to Taiwan, during commissioning in Florida and as an invited aboard guest many times. Migration was delivered offshore in the Bahamas during the December 2010 holiday season and immediately prepared for adventuresome travel as 2011 rung in the new year. Migration has lived up to her name and covered the US east coast several times. One particularly memorable trip was when the owners and a small team of engineers from the Ta Shing yard in Taiwan participated as crew on a run from North Carolina to Florida – the first time at sea on one of the boats they build for these skilled craftsmen from the factory. This type of connection between owner and yard has remained close and is one of the reasons Migration is now for sale as a new Nordhavn 68 to bear the same name is completing construction. Dufour yachts have a reputation for being seagoing passagemakers. The builder has a philosophy that stresses a combination of performance and comfort under all manner of weather conditions. The 38's under body, with its lead fin keel and fine entries, combines speed and stability with fingertip control, even when reefed in heavy weather. Dream Catcher has a streamlined deckhouse and has all halyards and sail controls leading aft to the cockpit where there are self-tailing Lewmar winches either side of the companionway. The cockpit is comfortable, fitted with Princess Seats, and the reverse transom allows easy access as a swimming platform and boarding area. All cockpit covers, Targa cover, boom bag, hatch and rail covers were new in 2017. Dream Catcher is a three cabin, two head layout with holding tanks forward and aft. The companionway leads into a large, well-ventilated saloon with a dinette to starboard and a slightly curved galley counter to port, with stove, refrigerator and lockers and a well-equipped navigation station with hinged chart table and a bench seat that lies aft of the dinette. The interior is of high quality, finished with a white deckhead and veneered mahogany, a Dufour trademark. Dream Catcher is also fitted with an Autohelm 5000 auto pilot, an Autohelm ST30 Tri Data pack, multi display and log as well as an extensive list of safety equipment and spare parts. The standing rigging was replaced in 2010 and a maintenance inspection and general repairs carried out in 2018. House batteries were replaced in 2015 and the start battery was new in 2018. The Banana 43, build by the Prometa yard in France, is an aluminum “no limits” world cruising catamaran. It has been called the “Landrover” of the Oceans. It is a sistership to “Mowgli”, the first version of the Banana. Mowgli sailed half way around the world with the owner’s family and he continued with a single hand trip (a world first on a cat) from Australia to Tierre del Fuego! Access to the vessel is made easy by the transom steps, with waterproof hatches to the engine bays and storage lockers. The large cockpit is the focal point for entertainment, with comfortable all round-seating and immediate access to helm station with large Furuno plotter and the sail controls.
