Before we knew it we were signing up for sailing lessons and taking offshore sailing courses. Last year we started looking at boats for sale. We spotted a gem of a sailboat for sale in Portland, Maine. A progeny of the classic Herreshoff 12.5, this Joel White-designed Haven 12.5 is for sale for $25,000. It was built around 2009 at the Maine Maritime Museum school. It's a little easier to manage (trailerable with a centerboard) and roomy enough for a family to jump in and go for a day sail. This one was used for about one week before being put into storage for ten years so it's in like-new condition. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. This week we find a lovely, young classic cutter wooden sailboat for sale. You might remember a small gaff-rigged wooden boat we toured a few months ago (Ep 32 https://youtu.be/KQToFXrp-a4) . She was built by Paul Rollins, a Maine wooden boat builder who has created some gorgeous and sturdy boats in his day. We spotted something under a tarp outside his workshop, and came to find out it was a Bud Macintosh-designed boat he built for himself. We tracked it down to South Portland, Maine where restoration specialist, Robert Blood, is in the process of sprucing up her hull and really making her sparkle... and ready to sell. She's a fantastic example of craftsmanship and old-world charm.
