In this short video we explain how to tie a bowline when you can’t see your hands. The bowline is one of the most commonly used knots in sailing or on sailboats. Many of us have learned the rabbit-hole-tree method, but I find that difficult to use when I can't see what I'm doing. With practice the method shown in this video can be done by feel, without the need to see your hands. To tie the bowline around an object using this method, simply pass the bitter end around the object before passing it back through the thumb loop (i.e. between steps 2 and 3) and pulling the knot over itself. Could you really live on a sailboat for just $20,000? In this episode, we’re building the perfect budget cruiser — the legendary Catalina 30 — and transforming it into a self-sufficient liveaboard for under twenty grand. We’re adding 800 watts of solar power, a 300 amp-hour lithium battery, fixing all the classic Catalina leaks, and finding used sails that still have plenty of miles left in them. It’s the affordable dream setup that proves you don’t need a million dollars to live on the water — just a bit of passion and a lot of butyl tape. Join me as I break down what to buy, what to fix first, and how to make a classic Catalina 30 into the perfect off-grid tiny home on the sea. The mission here at Lady K Sailing has always been to get more people sailing, more easily — and I couldn’t do it without the patrons who make these videos possible.
