Most cruisers practice abandoning ship, extinguishing fires, and handling medical emergencies, yet we are far more likely to face self-defense threats than those other situations. So Nicole and I also practice self-defense, building the skills and mindset we will be grateful to have if/when they are needed. In this scenario we deploy a Byrna Mission 4 rifle and Byrna EP pistol against an unwelcome “intruder”, an aggressive “dog,” and stationary “threats” at various distances and directions. We start with the rifle and pistol stowed, incorporating movement, as well as quickly reloading both weapons. When I watch this, I notice a lot that I did “right” including- not muzzle sweeping Nicole, good pistol reload, mostly accurate shots, good verbal challenge, etc. There is a lot I can improve including- rifle was held too low during reload, I took too long to deploy pistol from waist pack, my stance was off balance with pistol, etc. What do you notice I did well? Giorno 13 - ADRIATICO MERIDIONALE Questa notte, come sapete, abbiamo continuato la nostra discesa verso sud. Dopo aver scoperto che Monopoli non faceva per noi, abbiamo continuato fino a Otranto. Mare con onda di poppa, vento di 20/22 nodi che ci spingeva giù e noi abbiamo galoppato solo di genoa alla velocità di 7 nodi in media verso il mattino. Siamo arrivati alle 6:30, facendo un turno a testa. Alle 10:00 avevo un call con un cliente, così finito l’ormeggio sono corso a dormire tre ore. La giornata è passata all’insegna del riposo, della mancanza di energie e del caldo che sta abbrustolendo un po’ tutto lo stivale. Dopo un bagno rigenerante abbiamo lavorato ancora aspettando l’ora di cena. Uno sguardo alla città meravigliosa di Otranto durante la cena e poi di corsa a ripristinare le energie per domani.
