On Sunday, 9 October 2016 racing was cancelled at Royals as gale force northerlies caused damage around Melbourne and the RYCV Marina. Winds of up to 46kts gusting to almost 60kts were recorded at Fawkner Beacon and peaked around 2.00pm, which resulted in several mooring lines letting go as yachts lurched around in the wind and up to one metre waves that lashed against the marina. Christian Beck’s LawConnect won the race to be first out of the Harbour again and followed that up by winning Line Honours in a time of 1 day, 13 hours & 35 minutes. Matt Allen/James Mayo’s chartered Master Lock Comanche retired with sail damage on the first night and Grant Warrington/Adrian Seiffert’s Wild Thing 100 completed the race with broken mainsail battens and other damage. #rolexsydneyhobart #cyca.
