In this video we’re sailing upwind in 30+ knots of breeze in Johnstone Strait during the VanIsle360 race with a double-reefed main sail and #3 jib. Lots of sails were destroyed in that leg, including the #3 jib we’re flying in the video. J109 Going to Red was locked in close combat with the several of the IRC 1 fleet in the first of the Tobermory of WYHW 2023. The wind was ranging between 10 and 15 knots on the first beat with J109 Going to Red crossing just behind the Maxi 1300 "Maximoose Too" GBR9333C early on the first best. Maximoose Too lead from start to finish in this race with Going to read coming in 6th place. The bottom up boats team had a great time at WHYW, the weather was not great but the sailing and the social life more than made up for the damp conditions. While sailing though Vanuatu, we came across this massive 50m superyacht high and dry up on the reef. She had been shipwrecked during Cyclone Pam in 2015, and ever since then, it has been a struggle between owners, the government, and the local village as to who owns her, and what to do about it. The story was so intriguing that we filmed a documentary style video on the mystery surrounding the Blue Gold, and find out that in a week they were actually going to try drag her off the reef.
