Let’s talk about those Sailfin Snapper in one of our Ribbons Reef episodes, we’ve been getting a lot of comments on this footage. While we’ve seen plenty of smaller schools over the years, this one was HUGE! We can only assume they were spawning on this reef edge when we came across them - as a lot of other species seemed to be around the same time. Amazing to witness and catch on film. Secondly, a few people have told us these are good eating however the first thing that shows up on a google search is that they’ve got a high cig risk. So yeah, don’t think I’ll risk that. Talk about being SHOCKED! My neighbor SURPRISED me with a gift that he got while free diving in front of our home. He saw me firing up the grill for some steak and thought he would go free diving to turn my dinner into a "surf and turf". He walked straight out of the ocean and up to my lanai and proceeded to clean it right there! I have never cooked an octopus before so I asked him how and he gave me some quick tips and then handed it to me. When I put the Octopus into the boiling pot of water it began to move. Then when I put the salt in the water it moved even more. It was trippy! Knowing what I know now, I will certainly try a few things different to help get the meat to be more tender.
