Let’s talk about those Sailfin Snapper in one of our Ribbons Reef episodes, we’ve been getting a lot of comments on this footage. While we’ve seen plenty of smaller schools over the years, this one was HUGE! We can only assume they were spawning on this reef edge when we came across them - as a lot of other species seemed to be around the same time. Amazing to witness and catch on film. Secondly, a few people have told us these are good eating however the first thing that shows up on a google search is that they’ve got a high cig risk. So yeah, don’t think I’ll risk that. A post-race lecture discussing Rule 14 "Avoiding Contact" and what is reasonably possible and I countered with even if you are the stand on vessel getting into collisions always slows you down. If you can avoid a collision a boat should always do so for a host of reasons, but the most basic is that hitting other boats is a very slow way to get around the racecourse.
